Devanning

What is Devanning?

Devanning (also called unstuffing or stripping) is the process of removing goods from a shipping container for storage, sorting, or further distribution. Once removed, the goods are considered devanned.

Container devanning for brewery and beverage shipments is a critical and labour-intensive operation. It involves carefully unloading and sorting pallets of fragile bottles, heavy kegs, or bags of ingredients like hops and malt.

Devanning a container safely requires specialized equipment (i.e., forklifts) and trained staff to prevent damage and ensure inventory accuracy. Due to these requirements, logistics providers charge a devanning fee to cover the costs of labor, equipment use, and facility overhead.
