Flatbed

What Is a Flatbed Truck in Shipping and Logistics?

A flatbed is a type of truck with an open, flat trailer with no sides or roof used to move large, irregularly shaped cargo. In shipping and logistics, this type of common carrier is ideal for items that cannot be loaded into standard enclosed trailers. The open deck design gives access to all sides, making loading and unloading easy.

In the beverage industry, flatbed shipping is commonly used to move brewing equipment like tanks, fermenters, stills, and large machinery. Other common flatbed truck freight includes palletized bulk beverages and construction materials related to brewery setup and expansion.
